Boys club retain Division 1A status

28/04/2008

Sligo’s relegation to Division 1B was confirmed during the week after their appeal against the five point deduction failed. The dramatic turnaround means they slip from ninth to eleventh and last in the table with Tuam surviving thanks to the five points gained for the walkover and OLBC also surviving in tenth thanks to Monivea’s promotion to the All Ireland League.
Both OLBC and Sligo were tied on eleven points but according to branch rules in such a situation the sides will be separated by the number of games they have fielded and then a play off.  As OLBC fielded in every game this season they hold their place.  Meanwhile Ballina have been elevated to next season’s All Ireland Junior Cup thanks also to Monivea’s achievement.

The complete picture for Division 1A next season is as follows.  Galwegians, Corinthians, Westport, Castlebar, Corrib, Ballina, Buccaneers, Tuam, OLBC, Creggs and Loughrea.  Division 1B will comprise of Sligo, Ballinrobe, Ballinasloe, Gort, UCG, Connemara, Ballyhaunis, Portumna, Dumore and Carrick with West Offaly Lions and Monivea likely to join also.
